Explore Kitimat's building permits and construction activity
A free, public tool for the District of Kitimat, BC: eight years of monthly construction value and dwelling units from BC Stats, and every building permit the District has issued through its public records since December 2025 — by neighbourhood, category and processing time.
About How this works, where the data comes from & what it cannot show
Two sources, two time bases
Construction activity since 2018 comes from BC Stats' monthly Building Permits release: the dollar value of permits issued in Kitimat by building type, and the number of dwelling units authorised. It is city-wide only — no addresses or individual permits.
Permits issued since December 2025 come from the District of Kitimat's public permit records (Cloudpermit), which began when the District moved permitting online. Each record has a permit number, address, category, dates and a map location. The District's neighbourhood boundaries and parcel zoning come from its public map server.
A snapshot, not a live query
Neither the District's records nor its map server can be queried from a web page directly, so this page is rebuilt from a fresh copy about once a week. The date of the copy is in the footer.
What the numbers mean
- Days to issue = issue date − the date the permit file was opened in the District's system. It is not a formal "application received" date; read it as processing time, not queue time.
- Neighbourhood is assigned by the permit's map location. Kitimat's industrial lands (the LNG sites, the Ocelot Road industrial park) sit outside all eight residential neighbourhoods and are grouped as Outside neighbourhoods.
- OCP zone is the Official Community Plan zone of the permit's parcel (R = residential, C = commercial, M = industrial, G = greenbelt), where the parcel could be matched.
- BC Stats suppresses months with too few permits to protect confidentiality; those appear as gaps, and yearly totals say how many months they include. A methodology change makes pre-2018 figures non-comparable, so they are not shown.
What this page cannot show
The District publishes no construction value, contractor, dwelling-unit count or status history per permit, no development (planning) permits, and no permit-level records before December 2025. Everything here is limited accordingly — it is a small window, growing weekly.
